How does contracting work on Engine?

Connecting crew with projects. Contracting, Timecards, and more.

Studios or Production Companies choose Engine

Primarily to contract freelance crew members to their projects.

To accept an offer to work on a project who are using Engine, you'll need your own Engine account.

You use that account to save your personal startpack information & attachments once, and re-use it to join future projects.

You'll never complete a start form again!

Engine offers additional services

A project can choose to add on:

  • Timecards - record & approve crew working hours, with calculated overtime & penalties

  • Send - aka 'Distribution'. Manage groups and securely share watermarked documents

  • Diversity - anonymous surveys entirely controlled by the Company

Click the arrow to expand and see more information.

The contracting process

  • Project sends the crew member an Offer via Engine

Crew member receives an email

  • If crew member has an existing Engine account, they log in

  • If crew member doesn't have an Engine account, they follow these simple steps to quickly create their account

Check the Startpack is correct

Check the Offer is correct

  • Check that the Offer is to their satisfaction (check Start date, Rate, Allowances, eta plus Engagement type)

    • NOT ACCEPT the offer if it is not correct

    • Use the links to phone or email the project to discuss the changes required

  • Closely read the 'Accept offer' popup confirmation

Do not proceed if Offer or Startpack is incorrect

The information in the Startpack at the point the crew member clicks 'Accept offer' is used to write the contract & other documents.

If you proceed it will mean that documents which contain errors will be emailed to you every other day until you sign or decline.

  • If the information is not correct, click 'Cancel' or 'View startpack' to go back and update your Startpack

  • When happy to proceed, tick the box and then click 'Accept offer'

Contract documents are created

  • The Contract and other documents are populated with the relevant information from 1. The Offer, 2. The Project settings, 3. The Crew member's startpack

  • The documents are sent to the pre-determined signing chain (configured here), using Docusign.

You don't need a Docusign account to sign. You are emailed a link which opens the documents in Docusign (no log in required).

You are prompted to read and sign (pick a signature) everywhere required. The real 'signature' is the unique electronic transaction behind the scenes.
